Airbrush Tanning

FAQ

How does airbrush tanning work?
The tanning agent used in all self-tanning solutions is dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA does not produce a "real tan" by increasing the skin's melanin levels, it creates a tanned appearance by developing a brown color on the surface of the skin. The development of color takes anywhere from 2 to 4 hours and the intensity of color is dependent upon the DHA concentration in the product as well as each tanner's individual skin characteristics. The color developed by the DHA usually lasts up to 10 days and begins to fade as the top layer of the skin naturally exfoliates.

What's in the solution?
Norvell solution is a non-toxic, food grade product and there are three different types of bronzers used in the solution.

Is airbrush tanning for everyone?
Norvell solution is not known to have any detrimental effects on an expectant mother, nor has there been any negative feedback reported by medical authorities to indicate a risk to diabetics however, clients who are pregnant, have diabetes or have overly sensitive skin should consult with their primary physician before getting an airbrush tan.

How long will an airbrush tan last?
An airbrush tan can potentially last up to 10 days. Depending on whether or not you use a loofa in the shower and how often you shave, the life of your tan can vary. Moisturizing every day after getting sprayed is key. Keeping your skin hydrated will help prevent the tan from flaking off and looking patchy. Using a lotion with a small amount of DHA will also help prolong the tan.

How much does an airbrush tan at Revive cost?
An airbrush tan at Revive is $50 per session.

How do I prepare for an airbrush tan?
It's important to shower, shave and exfoliate before getting airbrushed. Also, it's very important to not apply any lotion or moisturizers before getting sprayed. Moisturizers put up a barrier and will prevent the solution from reacting with the skin proteins.

How long is the process?
The service takes approximately 30 minutes.

How soon can I shower after getting airbrushed?
It is recommended to wait a minimum of 12 hours before you shower after getting sprayed to allow the DHA to fully set in.

Can I go swimming after getting airbrushed?
It's highly recommended to wait 48 hours after getting your airbrush tan before enjoying a pool, spa or the ocean. Chlorinated pools and spas can increase the rate in which the skin exfoliates causing the tan to wear and fade.

Is there any down time after getting airbrushed?
Clients are advised to wear dark, loose fitting clothing after getting sprayed and wearing flip flops instead of tennis shoes is best. Avoiding tight fitting clothing and shoes will insure an even tan by preventing smudging. It's also important to avoid perspiring before your first shower; this means avoiding workouts, spending time in heated rooms and any other physical activity that might cause you to sweat.

Does airbrush tanning work for those clients with Vitiligo?
Yes. Norvell solution does work on the affected areas, however, it's important to remember the skin that is lighter will tan but so will the unaffected skin area, therefore they will remain different colors. While both areas do achieve a sunless tan, they will appear "two toned" when finished.

Will an airbrush tan protect against UV rays?
No. The skin is not protected and it's important to apply SPF lotions or sprays when in the sun. Norvell solutions do not contain any SPF.
